По-моему, типичное для Кинга идейное (от слова идея) произведение. Он взял группу людей и поставил в сложную ситуацию - нужно идти, кто остановится, того пристрелят. По-моему, это так же образец фантастической беллитристики - в романе показано, как ведут себя обыкновенные люди в необыкновенной ситуации.
